Full Text

Truckee Wants to Come.—The people of Truckee and surrounding country are making a desperate effort to have their territory and themselves taken from Nevada County and set over as a part of Placer. As we said some time ago on this subject, we sympathize with the people of Truckee in their awkward situation, and would like to lend them a helping hand, could we do it without serious injury to ourselves. We think, located as it is in a remote, snow-covered and almost snow-bound region, and naturally divided by the summit of the Sierra Nevada Mountains from the rest of Placer, that, in a financial point of view, which is no small point, at this time when we are doing all we can to lighten taxes on the masses, we would be better off without sister Truckee than with her. This we think is nearly the unanimous opinion of the people of the lower part of the county at least. We think Truckee would find the relief she desires by urging the establishment of a new county, sooner and more effectually than otherwise.
