ATROCIOUS MURDER.—On Monday last, says the Catskill Recorder, a man named Morris Welsh, was committed to the Greene county prison for the murder of his own child—an infant only a few days old. The circumstances are these: On the Friday preceding, Morris, in a state of intoxication, went to his house, and there beat and abused his wife—then seizing his infant child, he one by one, broke the bones of its fingers and arms, struck it on the head, and afterwards threw it into the fire. The child being missed by the neighbors, search was made for it, and on Sunday morning its half burned body was discovered under the floor of the house. We hope for the sake of humanity, that the man when he committed this barbarous act was not in his perfect mind. Intoxication would be no apology—it would only aggravate the horror of the crime.—[Journal of Commerce.
