Lighter Load Whiter Clothes

A heavy load in the washing machine may save time on a busy day, but clothes come out cleaner if you give the machine a lighter load.

Manufacturers of cylinder or agitator-type washers name nine pounds a capacity load. For the pulsator washer the top load is eight pounds.

A recent study at Ohio State College showed that all washers do a better job with a seven and one-half to eight pound load. The U. S. Department of Agriculture suggest a six to seven pound load for best results.

A combination of large and small pieces was found practical and satisfactory. An example of a typical assortment for an eight pound load is: Two sheets, two pillow slips, two bath towels, two men's white shirts, two luncheon clothes and about a pound of tea towels or other small items.
