Letters were received in town yesterday from
New-Orleans, which mention, that when that
city was released from martial law, Judge Hall,
(who, with the District Attorney of the United
States, and other citizens, had been held in
confinement) caused Gen. Jackson to be arrest-
ed on a charge of having violated the civil laws
of the country; and that, after an imprisonment
and trial, the General was fined $1000, which
was immediately raised by subscription among
the citizens, no person being allowed to sub-
scribe more than one dollar, and the General
was liberated.—N. Y. Mer. Adv.
