Enjoyments of the Air.
Do those who soar in airships these fall days enjoy the atmosphere more than those who walk the land and follow the hedgerows? Will aerial tours in the soft autumnal season, when the airship comes into general use, magnify the delights of October weather? It is to be doubted, rather it is to be denied. Let aerialists paint as they will the light and shade effects upon the clouds of the sun as they look from their baskets upon the vaporous shapes. But cannot the earth wanderer gaze upward and get at least a substantial portion of the beauties of cloud weavings in threads of amber, of purple and gold? Is this all that the upper atmosphere means to those who tread the untracked pathways of the wind? What else remains, when the earth has passed out of the field of vision? Dearth, monotony, unmeaning and unguided motion that cannot be detected save by the swish of the air currents, when one knows not whether he is ascending higher or going lower only as he consults special instruments.—Baltimore American.
