Full Text

AMSTERDAM, (Capital of the United Netherlands) August 31.

Letters from Guelderland, received yesterday and the day before, inform us, that all the troops in garrison in the different cities of that province, are in motion. Although some circumstances give us occasion to fear that a design is on foot against those cities, the Burgesses of which have demanded their privileges, yet we have no immediate cause of apprehension, as it is given out that these troops are, to replace those of Holland, which have been ordered to repair to their own territory.

They write from Zwolle, in Overyssel, that on account of the march of some troops to take possession of Hattem, 300 of the Burgesses of Zwolle, armed, had resolved to go to Hattem, and repulse the troops in case of an attack. The inhabitants have put their fortifications in order ; cannon are mounted on the ramparts. the sluices, that, the wooden bridge can be broken down in a moment if necessary, and they have assurance of assistance from the armed Burgesses of Campen, which is the next town. We hope our fears will not be justified in these events, but it is a dangerous thing to irritate the Burgesses to extremity.
