In a late edition—Luther Hay
The "Portage Whig," and "Summit Beacon" have taken especial pains to represent this gentleman as an enemy to the progressive movement, in favor of the down-trodden and oppressed. They declare that Mr. Hay said at Palmyra that, "he had no sympathy for the free soil faction." Mr. Hay said no such thing, and nothing that could be tortured into such a sentiment.
The Editors of the "Whig" and "Beacon" have both published a falsehood
