CHORUS GIRL With Red Rose Company Seriously Ill in Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls, Jan. 22 -Miss Mary Brennan, a chorus girl with "The Red Rose" show was forced to cancel her engagement and is now lying at a local hospital at the point of death from typhoid pneumonia which was brought on by the news of her father's death.

She is being cared for by the local lodge of Elks

Miss Brennan's history is a tragic one.

She left her home over two years ago after her mother had died and when her father remarried she resolved to support herself and she chose a stage career.

As the company with which she was traveling neared Wausau, Wis., her former home, her hopes were high with the expectation of seeing her father and enjoying a short visit with him.

She had pictured in her mind the reception her father would give her, the home cooked meal which her profession rarely tastes and a short vacation from the glitter of the footlights and music from the orchestra pit. She had planned a neat surprise on her old father and had told her sister chorus girls how she would tell her father a thousand tales of "the great white way."

Arriving at Wausau she left by car for her former home in the country but instead of finding her father strange people greeted her and told her that her father had been dead two years and her stepmother had sold the place.

This was the climax of Miss Brennan's life. She brooded over the loss of her only blood tie in the world and carelessness brought on by worry caused her to contract a cold.

Monday, when her troupe was playing at Canton her cold assumed threatening proportions and she retired believing she had the grip.

Yesterday she came to Sioux Falls and physicians diagnosed her case as probable typhoid pneumonia. The attending physician being an Elk, as is the manager of "The Red Rose" company and the local manager of the New Theatre, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks was appealed to and the girl is now being cared for by that order.

A collection was taken up among her stage associates and she will be given the best of medical attention.

Miss Brennan was one of the popular members of "The Red Rose" company and without exception every member of the troupe is longing for her return.

The manager has announced that she will be sent transportation at any time when she recovers and wishes to join the company again.
