The New Orleans Evening Mercury, of the 21st, contains the following from Tampico.

When the Jas. L. Day arrived off the bar of Tampico, on the 17th, she was boarded by Mr. Clifton, U. S. pilot, who stated that the citizens of Tampico were in daily expectation of an attack from the Mexicans, who were reported to be 1500 strong in the vicinity of Tampico. On the night of the 21st inst., demonstrations were made by the Mexican citizens to rise, but by timely information, our troops were on the alert, and lay on their arms all night. On the 15th inst., a party of Mexican lancers attacked the out-boats, and drove all the sentinels into the city. On the 16th, a party of Mexican rancheros attacked the Pilot Station; they were greeted with a volley of musketry, when they retreated.

Arrived at Tampico, on the 16th, the bark Mary, of Baltimore, having previously put in for supplies, sixteen days out from Brazos, and again returned to Tampico, not being able to reach Vera Cruz, her port of destination. She landed her troops at Tampico—200 men.

The Jas. L. Day brought over Dr. Dashiel and 120 sick and disabled men.
