Hurt By Compressor

Two City Sanitary Department employees were injured Saturday morning when they were crushed between the blades of a compressor wheel inside the garbage unit and the cab body.

Police identified the injured city employees as Charlie Robinson, 25, of McDonough, Ga., and Arthur Lee White, of a Boulevard, N. E., address. The extent of their injuries was undetermined Saturday night. They were both treated at Grady Hospital.

The incident occurred on the Northeast Expressway approximately 100 feet from 14th Street, police said.

Investigators said they were told by witnesses that the men were riding inside the garbage unit when the vibration of the moving truck caused the blade of a compressor unit to become activated. The rotation of the blade smashed the men between the blade and the cab wall.

A doctor from Grady Hospital treated the men on the scene and then transported them to the local hospital for further observation.
