FROM INDIA.
By the ship Ruby, Capt. Rich, arrived here yesterday from Calcutta, we have received India papers to December 16th, which contain numberless accounts of the progress of the British forces in India against Tippoo Saib: but nothing decisive had taken place,--in several skirmishes, Tippoo gained the victory: while in others the declared for the English whose force is divided into three armies. The main one of which is commanded by General Meadows. Lord Cornwallis, at the date of our last paper, had just set out from Calcutta, to join the army, and the most flattering expectations were formed from his lordship's abilities and bravery.-- The crisis appears very important to the British-- The issue of the contest, time must unfold.
