Bar Owner, 8 Customers Are Arrested

Police arrested the owner of a downtown night spot and eight alleged customers early today on charges of violating the laws affecting operations of places of business selling intoxicating beverages.

Charged with selling alcoholic beverages to a minor and violating the 4:00 a.m. closing hour for bars was Jack Gray, owner of the Downtowner, 109 Duval Street.

Thomas F. Marcinak, 19, USS Conway, was charged with consuming alcoholic beverages as a minor and consuming alcoholic beverages in a place of business selling after 4:00 a.m.

Leiana Foley, 28, 320 William St.; Edna Crosby, 28, 330 Duval St.; George Gwynn, 44, Top Hat (upstairs); Raylene MacBrynie, 24, 500 Fleming St.; Mary A. Emerson, 22, 500 Fleming St.; William S. Moore, 26, USS Marlin, and William F. Patterson, 25, USS Parle, were all charged with consuming alcoholic beverages in a place of business selling intoxicating beverages after the hour of 4:00 a.m.

The police docket shows that the arrests were made at 5:25 a.m.

The Navy announced on Jan. 27 that the Downtowner had been placed "off limits" for all military personnel.
