Mayor Walker Talks Out Regarding Religious Propaganda
ALBANY, N. Y., Sept. 8.--Another friend and political ally of Gov. Alfred E. Smith--Mayor James J. Walker--is concerned over attempts of some of the opponents of the Democratic nominee to make religion a serious campaign issue and he expressed his views regarding them.
Gov. Smith is keeping mum on the subject as well as on other subjects with which he intends to deal with in a six-speech drive in the Midwest, Far West and northern border States during the latter half of this month.
Coming out from a long conference with Gov. Smith, Mayor Walker, who is also a Catholic, charged that "fanatical bigots" have succeeded in getting through the mails "slanderous and disgusting" printed matter reflecting on the religious affiliation of the nominee.
