MONDAY, May 23.

Tuesday last (agreeable to the Advice of his Majesty's Council, as mentioned in our last) the Troop of Horse Guards commanded by Col. Phipps, the Governor's Company of Cadets led by Lieut. Col. Coffin, the Train of Artillery under the Command of Major Paddock, the Grenadiers commanded by Lieut. Peirce and the several Companies of Militia, under Col. Erving, were mustered to receive his Excellency General Gage, appointed to the Government of this Province. At 11 o'Clock his Excellency left the Castle under a Discharge of the Cannon of that Fortress, and proceeded on board his Majesty's Ship Captain, having previously given Notice of his Intention to land at the Long-Wharf: At 12 the Hon. his Majesty's Council, the Hon. Secretary, Magistrates, High Sheriff, Marshal of the Court of Vice-Admiralty, Selectmen, & a Number of other Gentlemen, received his Excellency (who was accompanied by Col. Leslie and several other Officers) as he landed, under the Discharge of Cannon from the Admiral's Ship, and the N. and S. Batteries and, preceded by the Company of Cadets, with their Band of Music, escorted him up the Wharf & through King-Street, where the different Corps were drawn up, and his Excellency received the standing Salutes of the respective Officers as he passed them. After his Arrival at the Council Chamber, his Majesty's Commission, appointing him Captain-General & Governor in Chief of this Province, and Vice Admiral of the same, were read, and the usual Oaths were administered by the President of the Council; his Excellency was then pleased to issue a Proclamation requiring all Officers whose Commissions would otherwise cease & determine, to continue in the Exercise of their respective Commissions until further Orders. Three Vollies were then fired, and three Cheers given by a vast Concourse of People collected on this Occasion.

After his Excellency had received the Compliments of his Majesty's Council, the Gentlemen in the Commission of the Peace: the Episcopal and Dissenting Clergy, Military Officers, & a great Number of other Gentlemen, he proceeded (escorted by the Company of Cadets) to Faneuil-Hall, where an elegant Dinner was provided for his welcome Reception.
