MISSIONARY MEETING IN WILMINGTON.

To the Editor of the Southern Christian Advocate

Brother Wightman, I take pleasure in giving you some account of our recent doings in this place, for the benefit of the missionary cause. Some of us had been led to fear in view of discouraging circumstances, that we should not do as well in this time of need, as could have been hoped for, under other circumstances: but results have proven to us, that these fears were not well grounded ; for this people have more than sustained their known reputation for liberality, by coming up nobly to the help of the Lord.

We had appointed Sabbath forenoon (Dec. 27) for services, in reference to the interests of the missionary cause; and when the day came, it was so inclement that we scarcely had our usual congregation; but we determined to do what we could; and we have no doubt that the spirit of Christian benevolence moved in the hearts of the people, The public collection amounted $87 10. After which the preacher in charge and his wife were constituted life members of the Parent Society. Father Jennett also was made a life member of the Conference society. We should be glad to give you the names of contributors, but cannot get them correctly.

On the next evening the missionary society of this station held its anniversary; and after the reading of the annual report and several addresses, Reverends W. Crook and M. C. Turrentine were constituted life members of the society; and a number of new members were added to the list. The society also resolved to have a monthly missionary prayer meeting.

The whole amount that has been raised by collections, donations, &c., is about $157—which we think a very creditable offering.

W. A. GAMEWELL.

Well done, Wilmington!
