County Supervisor John Hild yesterday issued a warning to motorists to approach dips on the county highways with care and to cross none that look unusually sloppy unless necessary. Hild said he went out to inspect the highways yesterday and had to have his car dragged from the mud in three different places.

Roads that were badly damaged by the floods of Thursday afternoon and Friday evening are the Slaughter's ranch road, the Leslie canyon road and the roads up the Sulphur Springs valley. The dips are the most dangerous places and crews of workmen are busy on all of them. If no more rain comes at once the roads should all be in good shape within a few days, Hild said.

In the Moffitts corner district the roads are especially bad and detours are necessary at present to get to Double Adobe or up the Central highway. The damaged sections are where the larger dips cross the highways. No report of material damage to the main highway 80 east of Douglas was received yesterday and it may be assumed that it is all in good shape.

Where water did not run over the driving surfaces a fine hard top crust has resulted.

Constable Gordon Newman who made a trip into the King's highway country early Saturday morning reported that the roads in that district are in bad shape and while the King's highway is passable there was much water running over it when he went out. He said that as soon as this dried away he expected that the road would be little the worse for the flooding.

It would appear that the general rule to follow in regard to all roads except the main highways would be to stay off of them for the next few days if possible. The very fact that few reports have come from outlying districts indicates that the roads have fared no better nearer the mountains than they did close in so that Sunday, motorists will probably go farther in greater safety and comfort over the main highways.
