Many of the Republican journals publish
with apparent glee, the reported negro escapes
ments from the Slave States, going into
Canada. This is all wrong. The negroes,
every mother's son and daughter of 'em,
ought either to be with those who want them,
or where white men do not care to congregate!
Sooner or later, the Canada fugitives will be
driven from the Queen's American dominions
with the order to never return. The Northern
States will then be over-run with the starving
darkies.-Dunleith Advertiser.

Republican papers are blamed for rejoicing
at the escape of fugitive slaves into Canada.
It is true that the Republican press are in the
habit of giving pleasurable notice of such
events, not because they go into Canada or
into any other particular locality, but because
they escape from bondage. The immense
immigration of negroes into Canada and their
consequent increase by a per centum much
greater than that of the whites will not fail
yet to command the interference of the
Government. The result may be to stop the
immigration or to expel the negroes. Self-
preservation will require one or the other
resort. But this fact presents the strongest
argument why Republican principles should
rule. The two races were never intended to
be one people. They are suited to different
climates, and placed until the wickedness of
man brings them together, on different
continents to mingle each with themselves,
not with each other, in any capacity. The
enacting of State, Territorial, or National
laws, by which the blacks will be kept among
us either as slaves or as citizens is the
preparing our own disaster-erecting our own
funeral pile. The negroes free in Canada
increase so fast that in a future day, if not
expelled, they will out-number and extinguish
the whites. If expelled, they swarm upon our
free States, and we suffer the baleful
influences of a corrupt association, and must
likewise expel or be out-numbered and
subdued. This is a theory adduced from fact
the fact, which statistics show to be true,
that the blacks increase everywhere faster
than the whites. In the slave States,
statistics show them to be longer lived, a
much healthier people and their ratio of
increase to be much greater than that of the
whites. Does any one need to be told of the
result? And has any one so little love for his
own race as not to seek a remedy? That
remedy is not in extending slave territory;
nor is it in making homes amongst us for the
free blacks. It is a false charge upon the
Republicans that they seek to do the latter.
People have a mistaken idea of republicanism,
and hence, when in a Topeka constitution a
Republican Convention declares that blacks,
free or slave, shall not be admitted into the
State, comes the cry that republicans are not
sincere. The Republican party is not the
creature of sympathy for the negro; it is the
offspring of a desire to secure the purity and
liberty of our own race forever. This can be
done now by providing a district in Central
America or elsewhere, where they may be
colonized by themselves, and have a
government and nationality of their own.
After a time it could not be done, and we
bear the sin of refusing to perpetuate the free
government given to us, and of fastening an
evil day upon posterity.
