RATHER IMPRUDENT.—A wise man foreseeth the evil and hideth himself, but the foolish pass on and are punished. Thomas Moriarty, who keeps a grocery store on Main Street, can hardly be written up as a prudent or wise man for his own interests. He has been suspected of dealing quite freely in the 'critter,' and has twice been up and found guilty of liquor selling. The recent grand jury found a bill against Moriarty for liquor selling, and his trial came off last Wednesday. He was found guilty of six offenses and fined sixty dollars and costs, only escaping a sentence of three months imprisonment by the neglect of the prosecuting attorney to file the certificate of the prior conviction. Worse than all this careless Thomas, sold the day his trial was expected to come off, a big drink of forty rod rotgut to one Richardson, a witness with a subpoena in his pocket to testify against Thomas for liquor selling. The result was Richardson was arrested, disclosed on this non-respecter of laws; and now Thomas has a prospect of boarding at the County house for a season.
