DETROIT MAN

DETROIT, Jan. 14. (U.P.)-Called into court to testify when two of his sons were arrested for fighting, John Estelle, 60, a Negro, was asked how many children he had begat.

John scratched his head.

"I'm not so good at figures, Judge," he said, "could I borrow a pencil."

A few moments of calculation revealed that John had lived with his first wife 17 years, she bore him 18 children before she died; his second wife, divorced, bore him one; his third, also dead, bore him 18-a total of 37.

John told the judge he was planning on re-marrying.

"Raisin' children," he said, "is my hobby, I guess."
