Small Majority for Marion County Man.

Defeated Sturgiss in a Remarkably Warm Contest—All Sorts of Charges Made by Latter's Friends—Transfer of Fight to Marion County Announced by Sturgiss.

The fight in Taylor county for the senatorial delegates on last Saturday was the event of the season. The returns show how hot it really was.

Swisher has won out by 58 majority on a very heavy vote. The Sturgiss boomers lost heart too early in the fight. They freely admitted that their man was beaten too early in the game.

Swisher is said to have done everything possible to get votes. The fight he waged is declared by the Sturgiss people to have been disgraceful. Bribery and corruption was open and defiant. There was no attempt at concealment.

The first returns indicated that he would have a much larger majority than the last figures received show that he got. The final figures were but 58 in his favor with all of the precincts in. The returns were canvassed this morning by the executive committee and it was found that he had won.

This gives him 21 votes. If he can capture the votes of Marion county he will be nominated for the senate in this district. Mr. Sturgiss was seen by a representative of this paper this morning and asked about the matter.

He had very little to say about Taylor but stated that the fight had merely been transferred from Taylor to Marion.

He said that he had thirty votes and Swisher has 21. The fight will take place in Marion county to settle who shall be named. The winner will take all the delegates as he did in Monongalia and Taylor.

The primary is to be held on June 28th and the county will be hotly fought for by the two contestants.
