An Explanation,

Editors Journal—I noticed an article in the Courier of January 25th and also one in the Marietta Journal of January 31st, relating to the need and expenses of Mr. J. T. Thompson. Both articles I believe were written with good intentions, but failed to present the matter in a true light.

Mr. Thompson has been in our care since Nov. 1905; we have received $30 a month for his care, and have been paid regularly up to date. For some reason the fund that was supposed to meet his expenses was a good deal behind when we took him, and has been running behind ever since till a committee was formed to look after that fund.

Mr. E. L. Faw has never hesitated to advance the money till it could be paid back to him, and it is the intention of this new committee to raise funds for the running expenses of Mr. Thompson, and to refund to Mr. Faw what he has advanced, as Mr. Faw should not be left alone to make up the deficiencies.

When I became aware of the fact that Mr. Faw was doing this, I felt that the situation ought to be relieved, and offered my services to help in raising funds. It was then that the committee was formed to call upon the friends of Mr. Thompson, and ask their help, so that hereafter the burden would not have to be borne only by a few.

It was not my intention to have this matter made public, but what has been written in the papers calls for an explanation.

My financial situation does not permit me to care for Mr. Thompson in his utterly helpless condition without some remuneration.

Whatever we do for Mr. Thompson is done cheerfully, as we are glad to do what we can to brighten his remaining days. If a home can be found for him where he will be more happy and contented we will be glad to have him occupy it, and will help him more financially. Every one is cordially invited to visit him.

If further information is desired, the same can be obtained from Mr. E. L. Faw, who is the treasurer of the committee and to whom all the funds should be directed.
