Wood, a native of Worsham, graduated from Worsham High School and received a B.S. degree from Hampden-Sydney College in 1942. While in college he was a member of the baseball team for four years.
After serving three years in service during World War II, Wood began teaching mathematics at Handley High School at Winchester. He attended the Institute at the University of Virginia for teachers of mathematics and science 1957-58 and is currently attending the summer session at the University of Virginia. Mrs. Wood is the former June Clark, of Pamplin.
John Wise Sherman, III, received his B.S. magna cum laude from Hampden-Sydney in 1956. Since his graduation he has been doing graduate work at V.P.I. and expects to receive his M.A. in physics this summer.
Sherman is a member of a Hampden-Sydney College family, being the son of the Rev. John Wise Sherman, '31 graduate and pastor of the Presbyterian Church at Pearisburg, Virginia; the nephew of Theodore Randolph Sherman, '39 of Baltimore; and the brother of Anthony Crawford Sherman, '60. A native of Pearisburg, he is a member of three honor societies: Phi Beta Kappa, Chi Beta Phi (scientific), and Sigma Pi Sigma (physics).
Mr. and Mrs. Sherman will take up residence at Hampden-Sydney late in the summer. She is the former Evelyn Elaine Steele, of Portsmouth.
