MEETING FAILS
TO MATERIALIZE

ONLY SEVEN COUNCILMEN ARE
AVAILABLE, AND BUT THREE
TURN OUT—TAKING FIGHT TO
PASS AN ORDINANCE:

No meeting of the city council was
held last evening for the reason that
there were only three of the members
present, J. I. Fielder, Chas. McGowen
and Ben Owens.
The next regular
meeting of the council will be on May
13, the time set for the city election,
but it is probable that a special meet-
ing will be held before that time.
There are many important meas-
ures to be considered by the council,
the most urgent being the special
election for the purpose of voting on
sewer bonds, and refunding bonds to
take up the warrant indebtedness of
the city. Had the ordinance for the
refunding bonds been ready to pre-
sent to the council at the last meet-
ing, at the time the sewer ordinance
was presented, both of these ordi-
nances might have been passed at
that time with an emergency clause.
but now these measures will have to
await the return of Councilman G.
W. White from Los Angeles or the re-
covery of Mr. Stansbie, as it takes
eight councilmen to pass an ordi-
nance.
Since the resignation last week of
Colonel Wilkins the council has only
nine members.
It was stated last
evening that Councilman Stansbie
was sick, and as Mr. White is absent
in Los Angeles, there were only sev-
en members in the city last evening
who might have been available, but
this number was not sufficient to pass
an ordinance, so that is probably the
reason that no meeting was held last
evening. While Mayor Sanderson an-
nounced that they would adjourn un-
til May 20th, he stated later that he
would try and get the council to-
gether sooner than that date.

Outcome

no meeting held due to lack of quorum (only three present, seven available); ordinances for sewer and refunding bonds delayed; council reduced to nine members after wilkins' resignation.

Event Details

City council meeting did not occur last evening because only three members attended, insufficient for the eight needed to pass ordinances. Urgent measures include special election on sewer bonds and refunding bonds for warrant indebtedness. Awaits return of G. W. White from Los Angeles or recovery of Mr. Stansbie. Next regular meeting May 13, special likely sooner; initial adjournment announced to May 20 but mayor plans earlier.
