N. E W YORK. Aug 19.

On Tuesday last arrived here the Sloop Sarah and Polly, Capt. Francis Brown in 15 Days from Antigua, by whom we hear that the Seas that Way are much infested with Privateers, there being 18 Sail out belonging to Porto Rico, which had taken 17 Sail of English Vessels between the 1st of May and 12th of July. There were also several Privateers out from the Main, some of which had Indians on board arm'd with Bows and Arrows, one Vessel in particular had 20 of those Indians on board. A Fleet sailed from Antigua, under Convoy of a Man of War for Europe, but by some Means or other she separated from them, where two Privateers fell in with them, took ten of them, and it is thought would have taken the Whole, had not a Guineaman in Company lay too for them, and having the Appearance of a Ship of Force, the Privateers were afraid to attack her, and sheer'd off. A Flag of Truce lately came to Antigua from Porto Rico, to fetch a Cartel for the Exchange of Prisoners, they having not above 200 English Prisoners, but nothing was done in the Affair, as no person in Antigua had proper Authority. Admiral Rodney in the Foudroyant of 80 Guns was sailed for Barbados. There was great Plenty of Provision in Antigua. No News there from the Havannah. On the 31st Instant in Lat. 37. 15. Lon. 72. Captain Brown saw a Fleet of 9 Sail of Ships and a Snow from Virginia, and on Tuesday last saw the Duke of Cumberland Packet, and 6 other Sail from this Port, 10 Leagues from Land.
