Extract of a letter from Capt. Isaacs, of the brig Commerce from Leghorn, dated on board in Baltimore roads, to his friend in this city.
On the 14th June was chased by an Algerine, which came within hail of me, it coming up very foggy thick weather of a sudden so that I could not see the length of my ship. I altered my course a little, and by that means, before the fog left me, I was clear of her: —But on the 18th June I was fired at by an Algerine Xebec, which rowed with 30 sweeps, manned with one hundred and odd men, mounting 3 six pounders; and being becalmed, they run alongside of me, obliged me to hoist out my boat and go on board them, where they detained me for two hours, treated me very complaisantly, but took from me about one hogshead of water and let me go.
