WARSAW, Oct. 12. Count Charles Louis de Wittgenstein lately met with the following disagreeable Disaster, among the Confederates. He was going to the Russian Army, to visit his Father, who is a Major General in the Russian Service, and took his Route through Vienna, Prague, and Breslau, in Silesia. On May 13th the Vessel in which he was passing from Cracow to Warsaw was stopped by the Confederates, and he was delivered to Lieutenant Sobiewski. The Count was accused of being a Spy for the Russians, in Consequence of which they seized his Letters and his Baggage; and on his requiring them to be returned, he met with every Sort of Outrage. After opening and reading his Letters, though they found Nothing that could prove him guilty of the Charge, they still insisted he was a Spy; and, after more ill Usage, ordered him to be hanged such. The Count could not find any other Means to put off the Execution of this Sentence but by asking for an Ecclesiastic to prepare him for his Death, and then said that he would embrace the Catholick Religion if they would allow him Time for it. He was accordingly sent to a Convent at Tarnowo, where he found an Opportunity of writing to the Prince of Anhalt Cothen, soon after which Michael Branicki sent two Officers to Tarnowo; and the Count is happily arrived here, within these few Days, from his Confinement.
