Full Text
A special to the Chattanooga Times says: On Thursday last at Mountain Hose, Ala., about one hundred miles from Chattanooga, near the Muscle Shoals canal, Bob Letson shot William Davidson and Rev. J. M. Pickens, killing the latter instantly. Letson asserts that Davidson grossly slandered his daughter. Pickens was in no way implicated in this, but being present when Letson attacked Davidson, having assaulted him on a public highway, he tried to prevent the shooting, whereupon Letson shot him three times, having first shot Davidson, who yet lives, but probably will not recover. Pickens was a Campbellite preacher. He was the greenback candidate for governor of Alabama during the November election, and received a heavy vote. He was a cultured man, and his death is greatly regretted in this section. Letson has been arrested.
