"The alterations in the notes are made in the most ingenious manner, and show that he is a perfect master of the "trade." The Mayor exhibited to us several notes in his possession, and among them 3 of $100, each altered from 20s, so well done as almost to escape the closest examination. Also, a $100 on the Chambersburg Bank, altered from a $10, and a $4 note on the Bridgeport (Ct.) Bank, about half finished, intended for a fifty.—The ink appears to have been entirely extracted by some chemical process and the necessary alteration made by a pencil or crayon."
