Full Text

A gentleman of great private worth—of much literary and political information— long and intimately acquainted with Mr. Jefferson, and among the most sanguine for his elevation to the presidency, wrote a few days since to us in these terms :

“ Send me those papers which contain the Orleans Memorial, and the last accounts from Europe upon the subject of Louisiana and our Spanish treaty—the bubble with which Mr. Jefferson has gulled many good men; but which will now burst upon a deluded country. too late, I fear, to prevent his re-election.”
