New Orleans, February 4.-Yesterday noon a scene occurred at Philip Hirsch's cooper shop, a middle-aged woman, who to all appearances seemed to be a German, being the central figure. There shone an unusual glitter in the woman's eyes that boded no good to some one. She looked about the shop until her vision rested upon a young man of about 24 years, who, seeming to understand that he was wanted, reluctantly approached the lady, and once being within her reach, she produced a stout hickory stick and began furiously using it over the body of the young man, who took to his heels pursued by the woman who, while keeping up the chastisement, accompanied the blows by denouncing him as a scoundrel. He, however, proved fleeter of foot than his assailant and soon widened the distance, when she, from sheer exhaustion, had to give up the chase. It was ascertained that the woman was Mrs. Henry Klaus, who, with her two daughters, Caroline and Annie, resides on St. Anna between Miro and Tonti streets. At the Klaus residence it was learned that the individual was John Krantz, but was also known as John Jacobs. He had been visiting the family for the year, and has been alternately playing the Don Juan with the two daughters until the mother, some months since, was astounded to find that both would shortly become mothers. She tried to bring Krantz to terms. He promised to marry Caroline, but would never agree on a date, and, from day to day and week to week, postponed the event until the mother recently ascertained the cause of his procrastination in the fact that he was a married man. Resolved to avenge her daughter's wrongs, she visited his place of business for that purpose, when he escaped with a few blows, but she vows that if she ever lays hands on him she will kill him. Krantz has not been heard of or seen since, and it is said he has left the city
