Solomon Rewarded by Gift of Rooster

Springfield, Ill., Oct. 4 - INS - Police Judge William D. Conway took his place today as a worthy successor to King Solomon in settling a question of disputed ownership.

His decision came in the case of two housewives whose chickens strayed back and forth from yard to yard until the women were quarreling as to which belonged to whom. Judge Conway's ruling was masterful in its simplicity. This was it:

Housewife No. 1 was to paint the legs of her chickens a vivid blue. Housewife No. 2 was to use a cardinal red on her flock.

So delighted were the women with the decision that they forthwith made the judge a present of a barred Plymouth Rock rooster, one of the disputed birds.
