NEW YORK CITY—Successful in the defense of his welterweight title against Ceferino Garcia at Madison Square Garden, Homicide Hammerin' Henry Armstrong forgot ring activities long enough to visit Charles Poletti, newly-elected Lieutenant Governor of New York, at the offices of Brooks Mendell, chairman of the American Business and Professional Committee for Tolerance.
Armstrong is pictured (center) shaking hands with Poletti, pledging his whole-hearted cooperation in the efforts of the Committee for Toleration, a movement sponsored by the Catholic Church in the United States, "to educate three million youths of America to build an enlightened citizenship looking toward maintaining a true democracy."
