It is now understood, that Gen. Scott, will not be a candidate for the office of Vice President. This gallant and estimable citizen, will support the Whig candidate for President, and "bide his time."

The Whigs being unanimous and undivided in their choice of their candidate for President, it becomes proper to look around and select a suitable Whig candidate for Vice President. We confess we have seen no name that pleases us as much as that of JOHN M. CLAYTON of Delaware, when used in that connexion. How would it take to have "Clay and Clayton too"? We have more to say of this hereafter.
