Ministers and Lay delegates met on December 12th in a one day special session at Trinity Methodist Church in Orlando, Florida with Rev. O. A. Burns as host pastor.
Bishop J. W. E. Bowen, Resident Bishop, called the Conference to order and presided over the special session.
The Conference considered a Resolution which had been passed in the regular session of the Florida Conference in the State of Florida. The Florida Conference passed the Resolution unanimously.
The South Florida Conference in the special session voted 40 to 3 in favor of the Resolution. The Resolution will be presented to the Jurisdictional Conference for its approval next June in Philadelphia.
The South Florida Conference was enthusiastic and welcome this potential union and looked upon the movement as one of progress.
A similar Resolution has been passed by the Atlanta and Savannah Conference at their fall session. If the Jurisdiction Conference approve the merger, this will decrease the number of Annual Conferences in the Jurisdiction by two thus giving 17 Negro Conferences rather than 19. The change would only effect the Atlantic Coast Area over which Bishop Bowen presides giving this Area 4 Conferences rather than 6.
