REVIVAL IN WASHINGTON CO.
We have received a very short letter from the Rev. Mr. Carruthers, dated Jonesborough, March 2d. He says, 'last week I spent some days at East Machias; and Machias-Port. The work is going on exceeding any thing I have ever seen in Maine; or any where else. Men are impressed with their lost and undone state while in the woods, and mechanics while at their work; and fall upon their knees, and cry for mercy. Two of this description came to Whitneyville, and went home praising God. Last night, a woman, who obtained a hope while we were singing the 34th hymn, 2d book; had come seven miles with her husband, to attend the meeting; and both went home praising God. I have now resumed my labors in Jonesboro', and intend continuing this work here. The work has had a powerful beginning: Several family altars had been reared in dwelling, where the children never heard their fathers pray before. The last week, while I was absent, they held prayer meetings every evening, except one: Yesterday, being Sabbath, they had prayer meetings in two districts: I may give you a more minute description next time I write.'
