Balt. Morn. Chron.

Republican Economy.—The Encyclopedia Britannica states, that the war for our Independence cost Great Britain 165,654,914l. sterling, and 4,653 men; while the expense to the United States was only 9,450,084l. This fact strikingly illustrates the difference between the habits of the two countries—between republican simplicity and regal pomp and parade. Our own hardy countrymen with rusty guns and in the dress of peasants, successfully encountered the legions of England equipped in glittering armour and the paraphernalia of royalty.
