It is highly gratifying to observe the exertions making by the young men of this town, to organize a company of Property Guards.—Such associations have been, and are, of immense benefit to the eastern cities: and it is matter of astonishment that our citizens should not have taken it sooner in hand. The property of our inhabitants plundered at fires, is a serious loss to the owners, particularly for persons placed in their situation.
It is hoped that hereafter, by the laudable exertions of this company, those who may be visited by this dreadful calamity will not have to add to their other losses, that of their goods and furniture; it will also have the good effect of checking incendiaries, who generally set on fire merely for plunder.
It is their intention, I understand, to provide themselves with large baskets to pack up and carry off to some place of safety, such portable property as may be most exposed to the flames, & it would perhaps be not amiss, if the company would take upon themselves to prevent any person entering a house on fire, except they be employed by the company.

Main Argument
the formation of a property guards company by young men will protect residents' property from plunder during fires, as beneficial in eastern cities, and deter incendiaries by restricting access and using baskets to remove goods safely.
