COUNCIL ACTS ON PETITION OF 70 PER CENT OF RESIDENT PROPERTY OWNERS
Improvements Will Make Ideal East Entrance to City-City to Pay One-Fourth of Cost
Acting on a petition signed by more than 70 per cent of the resident property owners, the city council have published their declaration of intention to pave, curb, excavate and fill Third street between the east line of Polk street east for four blocks. Storm sewers and sewerage ways will also be constructed in the improvement district to be established in that section of the city.
The proposed improvement will make an ideal eastern entrance to the city, and will probably bring in over Third street much of the traffic that has originally entered the city from the south and southeast.
As on other streets in the residential district, the paving will be thirty feet in width.
The assessments for this proposed improvement will be charged against the south half of the block on Third street lying between Third and First; and the north half of blocks lying between Third and Fifth. This comprises eight blocks abutting on the section of Third which is to be improved. Two of the blocks in the proposed district comprise the city park, and one-fourth of the expense will, therefore, be charged to the city.
The lots in these blocks, as originally plotted, lie east and west and have a uniform width of 50 feet. Two lots in each block abut on Third street. Each lot is assessed four lots deep.
