Full Text

Attempted Robbery.--The Treasurer's Office at Centerville was entered on Monday night last, by burglars--the lock to the vault door was cut out by steel hooks and cold-chisels and an entrance effected--the safe was tried by knocking on it with a sledge, and cutting off the hinges; but it resisted all efforts, and it is supposed the rascals became alarmed at their own, noise and decamped, leaving crow-bars, chisels, hooks blue overcoat, &c., behind them. The papers were scattered over the vault floor; but nothing of value was missing. A bag of coppers was thrown contemptuously to one side. We understand there was about $200 in greenbacks and government bonds amounting to $500 more, in the safe. The night was very blustery, and the walls very thick, and no person nearer than the jail, and the burglars had it all their own way. No clue as yet to the scoundrels.
