Return From The Dead
One can sympathize with the thousands who have been
waiting breathlessly for the announcement of the names of the
UN prisoners which are to be released by the Korean and
Chinese Reds under the exchange of sick and wounded. Numbers
of the families by the time this piece is read will already
have their cup of hope and joy running over, as their loved ones
are released to UN forces.
Monday's papers pictured in wire photos the looks of
thankfulness which filled the faces of mothers, fathers, wives
and sweethearts of some of the men released. To some of the
relatives it will be like someone returning from the dead. To
others it will be the answer to a prayer. To all, it will be a
source of happiness and comfort, mixed with natural concern
for the illness and wounds of the sick men.
No family which has not known the anxiety faced by those
who have loved ones "missing in action" can scarcely compre-
hend the great joy which will light up several hundred homes
in the U.S. and other nations of the UN who are carrying on the
fight to preserve the liberty of South Korea.
