We notice that the lumbermen on Penobscot waters are looking forward to an inactive winter. The light sales for the past season have had a depressing effect. The small demand for lumber has left them with a considerable stock on hand and the severe drouth has prevented the manufacture of the entire quantity of logs cut last winter, so that they intend doing only a limited business. The Whig says that one prominent firm in that city intend to sell all their teams and will do nothing in the woods during the winter, and others will do but little in comparison with the operations carried on heretofore.
