BRUTAL MURDER--Liz. Camphor, colored,
about thirty years of age, living in the north-
eastern section of Baltimore, died at noon yes-
terday from the effect of wounds inflicted by
her brother, Zachariah Camphor. She was
housekeeper for her brother and a colored man
named Alfred Jones. The brother and sister
frequently quarreled. Yesterday morning they
resumed their quarrel about seven o'clock, and
indulged in very abusive language towards each
other. They were thus engaged when Jones came
down stairs and ordered them out of the house.
Camphor was the first to leave, and his sister
followed.

They had hardly reached the street before
they were both on the ground, the woman ly-
ing prostrate on her face, and her brother on
top of her, pounding her head with his fist.
The cries of the woman brought the neighbors
to their doors, and, yielding to their expostula-
tions, the man desisted and allowed his sister
to rise. She did so, and staggering towards
the door, was hardly able to go into the house.
Subsequently they renewed the quarrel, and
Camphor knocked his sister down in the house
and beat her brutally. She continued vomiting
and became so weak that she was unable to
stand. She fell on the floor in the second story
and began groaning with pain and foaming at
the mouth.

A little girl who was in the house ran into
the street and brought assistance to the dying
woman, but she was a corpse in a few minutes.
Camphor, the alleged murderer, hovered
about the doorsteps, indifferent to the dreadful
catastrophe that had taken place. Even when told
that his sister was dying he refused to go for
medical aid, and sat in stolid indifference. He
made no attempt to escape and watched the in-
creasing crowd of people until taken into cus-
tody. An inquest was held last night and a
verdict of murder rendered, under which the
accused was committed for trial.
