The Christmas atmosphere swept into wards at Grady Hospital over the week-end to bring broad smiles and happy hearts to the children therein; with the hospital staff, radio personalities, and Ol' Santa Claus himself pitching in to make things bright.
The occasion was the second annual Christmas party underwritten by the Pet Milk Company and coordinated by Mrs Emma Bell and Mrs. Adeline Michael for Grady's sick.
There were toys and goodies and music for every one, from Barber Climmie, the little bed-ridden burn victim who was unable to actively participate in the fun, to 11-year-old Jean Adams, who wanted a saxophone.
STAGE SET
The stage had been set by the room being decorated with colorful Christmas ribbons and pictures. A huge figure of Santa Claus, prepared by Miss Emery Wood of the Fulton County Art Department, hung on the wall.
Every one in the ward was put in the Christmas mood for Santa's appearance, with the "Puppy Who Wanted A Boy" story told by Miss Mabel Lumpkin; songs rendered by a trio of Nurses, featuring Misses Margaret Atkins, Marilyn Harrison and Deloris Smith; and wit and charm of disc jockey Jimmy Whittington, who interviewed many of the children.
On hand to spread cheer were Miss Margaret Stovall of the public relations office, who took pictures. Mrs. Burnice Banks and Miss Betty Blake, ward Supervisors and many parents and friends.
When Santa came on the scene wearing a big grin on his face and carrying a large bag of gifts on his shoulders, he was heartily welcomed by the kids. The jolly old gent in the red suit quickly distributed the contents of his bag among them and the moment for which every one concerned had waited had come and was enjoyed by all.
