SECOND DAY.
A half hour was spent in devotional exercises, the Rev. Dr. Morgan leading in prayer. The roll was called, and the minutes of the preceding session read and approved.
The following Committees were appointed by the Moderator:
On Leave of Absence-Rev. Alexander Bartlett, Rev. John Safford and R. A. Severance.
On Nomination of Delegates-Rev. J. A. Thome, Rev. George Darling, and M. L. Bestow.
On Finance and Publication-Rev. A. M. Richardson, L. L. Rice, and Jay Odell.
On Narrative of State of Religion.-Rev. Henry Cowles, Rev. L. Kelsey and William Bonar.
On Place of Next Meeting-Rev. E. R. Goodwin, J. C. Hart and T. S. Baldwin.
Special Committee on the State of the Country. -Rev. Thomas Wickes, L. Kelsey, N. P. Barley, J. S. Carpenter and F. D. Parish.
Business Committee.-Rev. S. Wolcott, M. W. Fairfield, E. W. Root, D. Adams and M. D. Baetham.
The Business Committee recommended the adoption of the following partial order of business as a standing rule:
A. M.-1st. Report of Treasurer; 2nd, Report of Statistical Secretary; 3rd, Report of Committee on Education.
P. M.-1st. Reports on the state of Religion. 2d. Remarks by delegates from Foreign Conferences. 3d. Addresses from Secretaries of the American Congregational Union, and American Home Mission Society.
Evening.-Address from the Rev. H. M. Storrs on the Faith and Polity of the Congregational Church.
The Business Committee also reported the following, and recommended its adoption: That the brethren in the ministry, not connected with this body, be cordially invited by the Moderator to give their names to the scribes to be enrolled as Visiting Members.
The Statistical Committee being called upon to report, stated that they were not ready. A report was then read by the Educational Committee, and accepted by the Conference. M. W. Fairfield, H. M. Storrs and William Potter were appointed a committee to nominate members for the Educational Committee.
Delegates from corresponding bodies then reported themselves. Rev. Thomas Adams, of Maine, reported from that Conference.
A motion was made by Rev. H. Cowles, and carried, that the Committee on Nominations report expressly the meeting of the body respecting which delegates are to report.
Rev. Mr. Cowles then reported as a delegate from New York and Michigan.
The Treasurer of the Conference then reported and his report was accepted.
The Conference adjourned with a hymn and prayer by the Rev. E. P. Clisbee.
AFTERNOON SESSION.
The Conference opened with prayer by the Rev. C. W. Tolley.
The Narrative on the State of Religion being then in order, the Rev. J. R. Kennedy reported from the Iowa Conference, Rev. Dr. J. Andrews from Michigan, the Rev. J. Langworthy from Massachusetts, and the Rev. Mr. Noyes from New York.
The Moderator made a short reply to the reports from the various conferences.
