ON THE FRONT IN THE VALLEY
METHODIST CANTEEN
An outstanding success is the work being done by the Methodist church for servicemen, for it not only operates its own canteen each week-end, but keeps up with its work of supplying the Main-street canteen with cookies.
This coming week-end women of the church will take their customary turn at sending in cookies and sandwiches to the Main-street canteen as well as maintaining their own, which is open Friday and Saturday afternoons and evenings, with a recreation program for servicemen at 4 p.m. Sunday.
Nor is this all--last Sunday 35 servicemen were guests at dinner in the various homes of the church members, Mrs. Frank Young taking five alone. The church also sees to housing some 25-40 men every Friday and Saturday nights, and the minister has taken care of cases which for various reasons, the Salvation Army and other agencies were unable to handle.
Some 20-30 Marines are playing an active part in the church program, attending services, singing in the choir, acting as ushers, taking part in the Sunday school.
