A GRAND TIME IN AN OKLAHOMA
FARMHOUSE; ANNE COOKS MEAL
WOODWARD, Okla., Sept. 14. (AP)—The Colonel and
his lady are having a "grand time" in the words of Mrs.
Charles A. Lindbergh—on their impromptu visit in an Ok-
lahoma farmhouse.
Colonel Lindbergh, "that fellow" to his host, dodged
crowds even in the country 23 miles north of here, while
his wife put on an apron and helped her hostess, Mrs.
Homer Aitkens, prepare a meal
featuring roast beef,
mashed potatoes and grits.
"We're just fine and having a
grand time," Mrs. Lindbergh beam-
ed after their forced landing in
the Aitkens' corn field.
"There was nothing scary about
our landing. We came in just as
smooth as silk and have been get-
ting along fine here."
Aitkens disclosed he had invit-
ed the famous fliers to his home
without knowing their identity.
"He didn't tell me who he was
and I didn't ask him. Then Mrs.
Aitkens came around and told me
who they were.
"That fellow didn't talk much
but he sure packed away the vic-
tuals."
The colonel disappeared for sev-
eral hours, returning only after
dark, when a steady stream of
curious callers besieged the Ait-
kens home. Upon his return, he
said his long walk "was the best
exercise I've had in a long time."
"He just went walking off down
there through the field," said Ait-
kens. "He was just as fine as he
could be until all this mob of peo-
ple started collecting. Even then
he was nice until some girl start-
ed pestering him for a picture."
