PROSPECT of PEACE.
Stocks still continue their rise. Yesterday the three per cents, were up at 80b; and finally settled at 79.
The opinion that a general peace in Europe is on the point of taking place, is undoubtedly the cause of this rise; and this opinion seems greatly confirmed by a rescript published lately by her Russian Majesty, transmitted to us through the hands of Denmark, testifying her readiness to make peace with the Turks, and offering to give up all her conquests, retaining only Oczakow, with the territory belonging to it.—To this offer Mr. Pitt and the King of Prussia, it is said, have determined to accede; and as the Turks cannot carry on the war by themselves, there is no doubt but they will joyfully come into it; especially as by these concessions they will be put again into the possession of the Crimea, the loss of which would have been considered as the most disgraceful to them, as well as the most repugnant to their religion, of any that could have happened.
