Last Saturday afternoon Maurice L. Miller, engineer in charge of the new water works system being constructed for the city, filed an attachment on the property of the White-Johnson Construction company, which is boring the big tunnel, and a garnishee on the city against the contracting company for $1,981, this being Miller's claim for four months' salary at $400 a month, and a bill for $381 for extra surveying and plans made for the company.
Apparently the company and Miller found it an easy matter to arrive at terms of settlement after Mr. Johnson and Miller had talked the matter over, for on Tuesday Miller's attorney, M. J. Mayes, released the attachment and garnishee, and now all is well.
MILLER RESIGNS AS ENGINEER
After an animated and more or less stormy session of the city council last Monday evening, Maurice L. Miller, engineer in charge of the construction of the city's new water works system, tendered his resignation, after the city council had offered to pay him $500 in full for all claims for his services up to date.
It is reported that Mr. Miller has recently been awarded a $50,000 contract for the construction of a municipal sewer system at Palisade, and that he is anxious to get started on the new work. The work on the Glenwood tunnel will proceed without interruption, as it is now in good hands, and very satisfactory progress is being made.
