UNITED NATIONS. N. Y.-(ANP) --One of the major tasks facing the ninth session of the UN Trusteeship Council will be the examination of 97 petitions from the African territories.
They will be taken up with the annual reports on the respective territories and most of them will be examined by a special committee.
The session of the council, which began June 5, took on special significance with the arrival in America last week of Kwame Nkrumah, Gold Coast political leader and the pending decision to be made by the council on the seemingly perennial question of Togoland unification which will influence the lives of 1,000,000 Ewes.
Currently, the Ewes are under the political administration of the British, French, and the Gold Coast. Their case was brilliantly presented at the eighth session of the council by S. G. Antor, representative of the Congress of British Togoland. It was decided at that particular session that the French and British administering authorities were to formulate as soon as possible "substantive proposals for a practicable solution of the question" and to inform the council accordingly not later than July 1 1951.
