Two dead bodies were found in room 215 at the Carrollton Hotel, Baltimore, last Wednesday. They were those of a man and woman, who arrived at the hotel June 21st and registered as Mr. and Mrs. Fred. St. Cloud, of New York. The woman had been dead three or more hours, while the man had just expired when the bodies were discovered. Chief Clerk Kelly on Tuesday sent St. Cloud's bill to his room and was promised a settlement Wednesday. At 4 o'clock a boy found the door and transom locked and bolted. Receiving no reply to repeated calls, the door was burst open. A ghastly sight was presented. Mr. St. Cloud was lying on the bed dead, but still warm, and the woman was on the floor, also dead. No letters nor money were found among the scattered effects of the suicides. Empty wine bottles and half-burned cigarettes were found in abundance, and death had paid the bill. A discharge paper dated Chester, England, June 25, 1890, stated that Frederick St. Cloud had served a limited time in the Grenadier Guards, and that he was born in Middlesex county, near London, in 1868. The best clue to the woman's identity was found in a book inscribed "Irene M. Storey, from her papa, Danbury, Conn." The woman was about twenty-three years old. A dispatch from Hagerstown, Md., proved that the suicide was a resident of Hagerstown, where her mother now resides and owns property. The girl had been leading a fast life, and for some years had been practically ignored by her friends. Five or six years ago her father deserted his wife and went West. About a year and a half ago he returned and made an unsuccessful attempt to kidnap his daughter. It is understood in Hagerstown that he is engaged in the commission business in one of the western States. The unfortunate woman was buried at Hagerstown on Saturday.
